New Cruiser FAQs

How much food can I order at the Main Dining Room (MDR)? Most of the menu is complimentary, order as much as you want! Really enjoying a specific item? Go ahead and ask for more!

Can I change tables at dinner? Of course, simply ask your waiter and accommodations will be made if possible.

Should I pack beach towels? No need. Cruise lines provide towels.

How do I get a chair by the pool? "The early bird gets the worm" -If you arrive at the pool before 11 am there are usually chairs available. Look for chairs a little further from the pool itself, there are chairs on higher decks too. Don't be shy -if you see a chair that looks empty near a group of other cruisers just ask if it’s being used.

Do I have to tip everyone? Automatic gratuities applied to your on-board account (or pre-paid prior to boarding) cover your stateroom attendant and dining room staff. When you order or buy something (drinks/spa services) an automatic gratuity will be added (gratuities are also added to drink packages). You can tip above the standard automatic gratuity, but it is not required.

Do I have to get dressed up? Short answer, no. While there are some dress codes on board, they generally only apply to the main dining room and specialty restaurants (this applies to most cruise lines).

Do I need to take my passport (I.D.) with me on shore excursions? YES! While not always required by the cruise line or port we highly recommend bringing it with you (exceptions being private cruise line islands).

Am I going to gain weight on my cruise? While there is plenty of delicious food available, if you're worried about gaining weight there are options. Our favorite, and a personal cruise rule of ours, is to always take the stairs instead of the elevator. You can also use the ship fitness center or walk a few laps around the ship to stay active.

Will I get seasick? Modern day cruise ships are very smooth and getting seasick is rare. However, should sea sickness occur, over the counter medications (Bonine, Dramamine, etc.) work very well in combating symptoms.

Will I be bored? NO WAY! there are plenty of activities available both on board and in port.
